Assignment Time Information Phone

Microsoft Teams for Education allows users to post messages, check notifications, open files, and manage their assignments from their iOS or Android mobile devices. Once inside the Assignments tab, teachers can create and save assignments, while students can attach and turn in their work.

Navigate to your assignments

View your assignments for a class from inside the General channel.

  1. Select the Teams icon and navigate to your desired class.

  2. Select the General channel.

  3. Select Tabs, then Assignments.

Tip: Use the search icon on your mobile app to search for an assignment by keyword. When a new assignment is created, a post appears in the General channel and students are notified in their Activity section. They can follow these notifications to navigate to the assignment's details.

Sort your assignments

By default, the list of assignments will snap to today's date. Scroll up or down to view assignments in the past or future. 

  •  On a mobile phone, tap Go to today to return to today's date.

  • On a tablet, toggle between the line and square icons to browse your assignments by list or week view. Tap Go to today to return to today's date.

Teachers can create, edit, and delete assignments using their Microsoft Teams mobile app. Each assignment card displays how many students have turned in work so far, or if the assignment is in Draft state. 

Note: At this time, the ability to review assignments is not available on smaller mobile devices but is available on larger devices such as tablets. Support for reviewing assignments in landscape mode for iPad is coming soon.

Tap an assignment card to open it and view assignment details.

  • To edit an assignment, tap the More options ... icon and select Edit. Tap Update to save your changes when you're finished.

  • To delete an assignment, tap the More options ... icon and select Delete.

  • To create a new assignment, tap the Add button.

    Scroll to enter your assignment's details, such as its title, due date, and points possible. Attach any reference materials or specify a worksheet or blank file for your students to turn in. When you're finished, select Assign. This will notify your students that a new assignment has been added.

Student view on mobile

Students can keep track of their assignments and turn them in using the mobile app. Each assignment card appears on its due date. The state at the top of the card indicates if the assignment is Turned in, Reviewed, Past due, or Not turned in.

Tap an assignment card to open it and view assignment details.

  • To turn in an assignment, open the assignment and attach any work by tapping the Add button under My work. Tap Turn in. Your turn-in will be recorded with a time and date stamp.

  • To add new work to an assignment you've already turned in, open it, update your work, and tap Turn in again.

Assign tasks and send reminders to customer service agents and field technicians using push notifications.

Agents and technicians can receive push notifications about tasks on their mobile devices. Dispatchers and managers can use push notifications to assign tasks to groups or to individual agents and to send reminders. Agents and technicians can accept or reject tasks from their mobile devices depending on the configuration.

Push notifications for work order tasks use the ServiceNow Mobile Application push application. Use this application to send notifications to both individual users and assignment groups.

Users with the system administrator role can enable and configure push notifications. See Push notifications for more information.

Push notifications for task assignment

When a dispatcher or manager assigns a task to an individual user:
  • The user receives a notification with an Approve or Reject action. Approving the notification assigns the task to the user. Rejecting the notification unassigns the task and returns it to the Pending Dispatch state.
  • With auto assignment enabled, the user receives a notification about the assigned task and no further action is required.

Note: This behavior depends on the setting for the Agent must accept or reject the assigned task configuration option. If disabled, the agent does not have the option to reject a task.

When a dispatcher or manager assigns a task to an assignment group, all users in the group receive a notification with an Approve or Reject action. Agents receive the notification and can accept or reject the task. When an agent clicks Assign to me, the state of the task changes to Assigned.

Push notifications as reminders

Notifications can be sent as reminders about upcoming tasks and about SLAs coming due. These notifications are sent to the agent assigned to the task.

Send notifications as upcoming task reminders. Reminders can be set at 15-minute intervals up to one hour. These reminders require the wm_notification.upcoming.task.reminder.minutes.before system property to be set. The default setting is 45 minutes before the task start time. If the value for this property is not defined, the agent does not receive reminders.

Send notifications to the assigned agents and agent managers for the following SLAs:
  • SLA warning
  • SLA breached
  • SLA repair complete
